Have you ever wondered how or why grapevines are able to attach themselves to trellis structures or almost anything? It’s called Thigmotropism (the turning or bending of a plant or other organism in response to a touch stimulus)!  We are fascinated by this little mechanism and we thought we would share some fun information with you!

We all know that plant roots grow down, but did you know that they are grow in a negatively thigmotropic and follow the Earth’s gravitational pull? Since vining plants are thigmotropic, they actually defy gravity and we think that’s what makes grapes and other similar vining plants super cool!
