The 2022 vintage marks 20 years of making Petite Sirah at Fleur de California, and our 13th year working with fruit from the Suisun Valley appellation. This region lies just east of the southern Napa Valley, with a very similar climate. We aim for a smother, more fruit-driven style of this varietal, and this is achieved through cool-temperature fermentation, shorter time on the skins, and longer barrel aging.
Tasting Notes: Deep yet bright purple-red color. Aromas of currant, salted plum, black tea, fig and forest floor, with hints of toasted oak beneath. In the mouth, it has a medium weight with moderate tannins and bright acidity to give some grip. This will pair with rich meat dishes very nicely. A great fruit forward Petite Sirah that will not overpower the senses.
Winemaking: This wine was aged in about 20% new French oak for a total of 22 months. This extended aging in French oak barrels adds complexity while softening tannins in the wine.
