The 2021 vintage marks 19 years of making Petite Sirah at Fleur de California, and our 13th year working with fruit from the Suisun Valley appellation. This region lies just east of the southern Napa Valley, with a very similar climate. Petite Sirah has a reputation for making dark, remarkably tannic wines that could be quite difficult to pair with meals, but we aim for a smother, more fruit-driven style. This is achieved through cool-temperature fermentation, shorter time on the skins, and longer barrel aging.

Petite Sirah is a sumptuous varietal that invites and rewards exploration. Opulent aromas of dark fruit and spice emerge from the glass. Extended aging in French oak barrels added complexity while softening tannins in the wine. Plush and velvety, it exudes ripe berry and cracked pepper flavors that embrace your palate.

This wine was aged in about 20% new French oak for a total of 20 months. The resulting wine is dark and rich, with blueberry and blackberry fruit over hints of oak and black pepper. Surprisingly versatile, it pairs well with red meats, rich pasta dishes, and even desserts such as a dense, dark chocolate cake.
