2018 Fleur de California
Petite Sirah North Coast
The 2018 vintage marks 16 years of making Petite Sirah at Fleur de California, and our 10th year working with fruit from the Suisun Valley appellation. This region lies just east of the southern Napa Valley, with a very similar climate. Petite Sirah has a reputation for making dark, remarkably tannic wines that could be quite difficult to pair with meals, but we aim for a smother, more fruit-driven style. This is achieved through cool-temperature fermentation, shorter time on the skins, and longer barrel aging.
This wine was aged in about 20% new French oak for a total of 20 months. The resulting wine is dark and rich, with blueberry and blackberry fruit over hints of oak and black pepper. Surprisingly versatile, it pairs well with red meats, rich pasta dishes, and even desserts such as a dense, dark chocolate cake.
